Many kids like to go to day camps because they meet new friends, play fun games, and get to be messy and creative. Does this sound like you? A usual camp day at SCF will include warm-up activities, fencing instruction, fencing-themed crafts or games, snacks, and much more! You will meet kids just like you who want to have adventures and learn new stuff. Still not sure? Come by and visit with us before your camp starts—we'll show you around so you know just what it's all about!

Parents: Our day camps are taught by professional fencing instructors and assistants who have been certified by the United States Fencing Coaches Association. They have been fencing and teaching for many years, and have worked with kids of all ages and abilities. Our goal is for kids to have fun learning a new sport in a safe and supportive environment. We believe that fencing is a lifetime sport, and that your child can be healthy throughout his or her lifetime by staying active in sports that he or she genuinely enjoys.

Camp descriptions

Day camps for Musketeers (8-11 year olds)

Our Musketeers camps are for boys and girls 8-11 years old. All fencing levels, are welcome, including beginners. Students in our Musketeer classes during the rest of the year are also welcome to join us for camp. We will structure the day for all levels and abilities.

Some Musketeers may only want to come for half a day, during which they learn how to fence, play fencing games, and have a snack. This is a great option for our youngest fencers who aren't quite ready for a full day of fencing. They still get to experience all the great activities of the full-day camps, but with more time to recover!

Full day camps are also available for our Musketeer age fencers during some sessions. We will go more in-depth in our study of fencing, and incorporate more crafts and games into the extra hours. The more you fence, the better you get!

To sign up for Musketeer camp, call our office at (503) 375-9209 or email us now.

Day camps for Cadets (12-18 year olds)

Beginning fencing for Cadets

Cadet camps are geared towards the beginning fencer, ages 12+. We will teach the basic techniques and strategies for the beginning foil fencer. Instruction will be age-appropriate, and will focus on form over competitiveness. By the end of the week, the fencers will be able to safely fence on their own.

Full day camps are also available for Cadet fencers during some sessions. We will go more in-depth in our study of fencing, and incorporate more history, tactics, and games into the extra hours. The more you fence, the better you get!

Middle school camp

This half-day camp is for middle school students (going into 6th-8th grade in the fall) who are thinking about joining our Middle School Fencing League in September and who have not fenced before. We will teach you everything you need to know in order to make your school proud! (Joining the middle school league is not required to attend this camp.)

To sign up for any of these camps, call our office at (503) 375-9209 or email us now.

Non-Beginner camps for Cadets

NEW! This year we are offering higher level camps for non-beginning fencers.

Skills & Tactics: Foil Fencers who have completed Intro I or have been in our middle or high school fencing leagues are eligible to participate in the Skills & Tactics: Foil half-day camp. Students will go into considerable depth exploring the skills and tactics associated with this discipline. Equipment will be provided as needed.

Competitive Epee Epee fencers who have completed the Intro to Epee class are eligible to participate in this Epee camp. Fencers will be given group and individual instruction with an emphasis on bouting and competition. Fencers will also engage in plenty of in-depth practice of technical skills and practical application of tactical theory. Epeeists from out of town are welcome at this camp and can be provided with housing if requested. Equipment will be provided as needed.

Intro to Epee Camp

NEW! Current fencers born in 2000 or earlier who are planning on fencing in the Youth Epee League season are encouraged to enroll in this "transition" class. Students are expected to have fenced foil for at least one season of middle/high school league or have completed Intro 2 or six months of Musketeers. Adults and non-league fencers age 10+ are also welcome to attend, although priority will be given to youth fencers.

To sign up for any of these camps, call our office at (503) 375-9209 or email us now.

Day camps for all ages (8+)

Fencing Activity Days

New this year - drop your child off for fencing themed games, crafts, and fun! Ages 8+ are welcome even if they do not know how to fence. This is not a learn-to-fence class, however we will be going over some of the basic skills so that beginners can also participate in the games and fun. This is a great way to burn off some of their excitement with other kids their age and keep them from uttering the dreaded "Mom, I'm BORED!".

To sign up for any of these camps, call our office at (503) 375-9209 or email us now.
