Salem Middle School Fencing League 2010 Season

The Salem Middle School Fencing League will kick off its third season on Monday, September 13th. The league is open to all middle schoolers with fencing experience who attend school (public, private, or homeschool) in the Salem-Keizer area. Weekly practices are run by United States Fencing Coaches Association-certified instructors/coaches. The season will run until the championship meet on November 13th, 2010.

  • Orientation is on September 1st at 6:00 p.m. here at SCF. This is mandatory for fencers new to the league (please bring your parents!) and recommended for returning fencers. You can register at the orientation or in the office.
  • Physicals are required for all fencers. If you have had one in the last two years (on or after 9/1/08) you do not need another one. Returning fencers may have them on file, but new fencers will need to bring a copy. (Most pediatricians will not charge you for a copy if you have had one in the last two years.)
  • The last day to register for the league is September 13th. If you missed out last year, be sure to sign up early this year!
  • Equipment check out will also be September 13th, starting at 3:00.
  • The cost for participation in the league is $100. This includes training camp, weekly practices, meets, and use of all equipment. Scholarships are available for the league.
  • Regular practices are held Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays at Salem Classical Fencing from 4-5 p.m. Fencers need to attend at least two practices per week in order to participate in competitions. The first week (Sept. 13-17) there will be practice every day from 4-6 p.m. This is our "training camp" to get fencers back in shape after a long summer away!
  • Meets are on Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 p.m., at SCF. Meets are NOT at Parrish MS this year! (Click on the schedule below for details.) Please try to arrive no later than 3:50 p.m. The first meet will take place on 9/22. The championship meet is on November 13th at Parrish MS.

Paperwork

Please bring these completed forms to the office by September 13th to register for the league. If you don't have a printer, you can pick up a copy in the office.

History of Salem Middle School Fencing League

So many people had been talking about how the middle school students in the Salem area have not had the opportunity to do nearly as many sports-related activities as our high school students do. We at SCF felt it was time to do something about that by offering a Salem Middle School Fencing League.

Basing it on the success of our current Salem High School Fencing League, the Salem Middle School Fencing League is open to any experienced fencer from the Salem area who is in 6th, 7th or 8th grade in a public, private, or home school.

As with our high school league, the league is an outreach project of Salem Classical Fencing. It is a community-based club sport (like lacrosse) that is recognized by the school district, but completely independent of Salem-Keizer School District. We receive no school district funds and rely solely on participation fees and donations to fund the league's activities.
